iceplate | hydration pack
The Iceplate is a hydration and cooling system, worn on the inside back of the Chameleon armour system, that ensures Military Members remain well-hydrated in the field. In the best case scenario, soldiers freeze an Iceplate before placing it into a secure holder in the rear of the plate carrier.
Due to body heat and evaporation, the frozen ice will melt, providing cold water and a cooling effect to the soldier. Similarly, in cold environments, hot fluids can be added.
The soldier is cooled by condensing ice, reducing their immediate water needs. Additionally, the fast wicking Wraith combat uniform helps to keep the soldier dry after use. Research suggests that cold water is both more enjoyable to drink and delivers more immediate hydration.
The location of the drinking tube and the shape of the plate allows for 100% water consumption.
The Iceplate is thin, curved, and worn closer to the body, providing a number of advantages over more common "Camelbak" hydration systems. In hot environments, however, soldiers are often instructed to carry additional water supplies.
While not rated for combat use, the Iceplate does offer limited protection in the case of the plate carrier being struck.
